FacilitiesDigital video as opposed to analogue video is now the standard for all broadcast and industrial/corporate programme making, with wide screen (16:9) format and High Definition (HD) gradually taking over from 4:3 and standard definition. A significant development in acquisition technology recently has been the introduction of tapeless recording systems, with all the major manufacturers competing for a market share. After evaluating the systems on offer, ENIGMA VIDEO chose the Panasonic P2 system. The P2 system records audio and video at broadcast standard 4:2:2 on to rugged solid state P2 memory cards and though not the cheapest of the tapeless systems is regarded as one of the best. Many British and European broadcasters are now signed up to P2 and it is rapidly becoming a world standard too with SKY SPORTS now standardising on P2 for acquisition and broadcast. We currently use Panasonic Professional broadcast 3 chip two thirds inch P2 cameras in either 4:3 or 16:9, SD or HD. Postproduction is based around the latest Apple MACPRO INTEL dual-core computer running the latest Apple OS software, which hosts the Media100 hardware/software edit suite through an AJA interface. The computer was custom built as a video work-station by Digital Garage Group of Banbury Oxford and has large capacity external hard drives for video storage. Archiving is provided by a GLYPH removable media storage system with currently three large hard drives. Boris Red, Photoshop, DVD StudioPro, QuickTime Pro, Contribute, Episode and Roxia Toast Titanium Pro are installed to provide complete integration between input and output to DVD CDrom or the web. Two 22" monitors and a dual standard 32 inch HDMI enabled LCD output monitor complete the edit set-up. As video recording technology improves and our client’s expectations become more demanding we have had to invest more and more in high end acquisition and post-production equipment. The benefit of this is that we can offer high quality video programmes at very economic rates compared to our metropolitan rivals.
